Things to know...
School Hours
School will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. If your child enters the room after this time, he or she will be considered tardy. We will begin dismissal at 3:00 p.m.
Transportation
Please keep me updated throughout the year on any transportation changes that may occur. If your child has any change, please send a note or call the school. I may not have time to access the internet throughout the day, so email is not a good source of communication for this matter.
Weekly Folders
We will be sending school-wide folders home on Friday. On Monday, please return the folder.
Parent/Student Weekly Journal
Your child will be writing to you each week about things they have learned, done, and activities from the week. They will come home on Fridays along with Friday Folders. Please be sure to write back to your child over the weekend. They love reading about what you did in second grade and any hopes and dreams you may have for them for this year! Also, don't forget, they can't read cursive just yet, so please use your best print so they can read your notes.
Grading Procedures
Wake County Standard Based Grading
Level 4: Since I can do/get this, I can figure out new things! (Going Beyond the expectations)
Level 3: Independently, I get it and can use it.
Level 2: I almost get it but I need support.
Level 1: I don’t get it yet. I need a lot of support.
I will write a "P" on classwork and homework because these are skills that are currently being Practiced in the classroom.
Lunch
If you plan on having your child buy a lunch, please keep the account updated. The lunch price this school year is $2.25. In my experience, second graders get very upset when they do not have lunch money. Borrowing from the PTA is allowed no more than 4 times per year.
Birthdays and Special Events
Please notify me at least 1-2 days before bringing in a special class treat at lunch. This will allow ample time for the TA's in the cafeteria to be notified. All items must be store bought. Homemade foods will not be served. Birthday invitations should not be passed out at school.
Snack
Please send in a healthy snack for your child. Cookies, cakes, and other sugary foods do not provide the brain boost we are looking for!Students can keep water bottles in their cubby to stay hydrated throughout the day!
Volunteers
Please make sure that you have completed your volunteer clearance through Wake County. The Wake County Volunteer Sign Up must be completed on a yearly basis. Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed at Sycamore Creek Elementary. Protecting the instructional periods of the day is also a priority for our school.
Please refrain from popping into your child's classroom during the school day without prior arrangements. We ask that you help us ensure the instructional day is protected and not interrupted so we can provide the best education for your child.
